Twitter

A Review of This Social Networking Phenomenon

Sign Up for Twitter - Click HereWow, this is amazing. Twitter has only been around since 2007 and yet it has millions of people already talking about it. I jumped on the Twitter band wagon a few months ago actually as part of a plan to make money online. I won’t go into too much detail, but I’ll tell you that the plan was to use the audience on Twitter as a form of promotion, which totally worked. I’m not here to talk about that program though. I want to give my opinion of Twitter itself - the good, the bad and the ugly.

Let’s start with the good parts of Twitter. It allows people to feel popular as random people follow them just because of what they tweet about. This concept of micro-blogging is the main reason why people like it so much because they can share their opinions with the world without paying a penny. Any views that they have or experiences they want to share can be sent out in a quick tweet to all of their followers. I’m not much of a blogger myself, but I can definitely see the fun that may be involved with writing 140 characters about what you’re doing. Not my cup of tea, but it’s a whole lot of other people’s.

Another cool feature about Twitter is that it allows people to keep in contact with their favorite celebrities without having to pay for a magazine or start stalking them. Anyone who uses Twitter has the ability to follow someone they want. Thus people can find out what some of the hottest stars are doing on a regular basis. Again, this is one of those not-my-thing matters as I don’t watch or care for much TV, but it’s still a really cool feature that other social networking sites don’t really allot for. My daughters absolutely love it, and I can see how other people would too.

From a business perspective, Twitter helped me out a lot. I basically targeted an audience to reach out to and waited for them to follow me. Then I was able to promote my business to strangers that I would have never had access to otherwise. So many people are signing up for and using a Twitter account every day, that it almost seems odd that more people aren’t using it for online business promotion. Nevertheless, it definitely paid off for me, and I’m glad I looked into Twitter-based programs to help me make money. The idea seems a little new because the site itself is a little new, but it works. It's simple as that.

I guess I have to get to the bad and ugly parts, right? Well, to tell you the truth, there isn’t a whole lot wrong with the system. Signing up only requires your name and email address, and I have to tell you that I haven’t received any Twitter based spam yet at all. I guess you could say that it’s bad because people get so hooked on it, but what’s the big deal with that? Twitter gives talkative or opinionated people the chance to speak their minds and really get others to hear what they have to say. People who like to decorate can personalize their backgrounds, and everyone gets a chance to simply connect. That’s all anyone ever wants is a little connection in their lives. Twitter is a great gateway for that.
